Willow Tree & Little Willows Nurseries
The Willows Nurseries incorporate Little Willows (0-2 years) and Willow Tree (2-5 years) and are located within the safe and secure grounds of Carrington School, surrounded by playing fields, open countryside and away from main roads. They have been designed and equipped specifically as extended day care nurseries and within each room we cater for sleep, quiet, noisy, messy and learning activities.
The nurseries have a large secure grassed outdoors playing area and, weather permitting, we aim to have outdoor play as often as possible.
Willow Tree also has a tarmaced area for riding bikes and the grassed area for running games, ball play, slides and see-saws. The children are also growing their own vegetables in the garden!
Lisa Sagbilge – Manager – Little Willows
Lisa completed her DCE at Amersham and Wycombe College in 2002 and was then employed by Countryside Nurseries as a Nursery Practitioner. Since then she has worked her way up to Room Leader, Deputy Manager and, after proving her commitment and leadership skills, she was promoted to Manager in 2009.
What Lisa says about her nursery...
“I feel that Little Willows has a very cosy and homely feel to it and is safely tucked away in the grounds of Carrington School. I have 13 members of staff who all work really well together as a team and have experience and excellent knowledge and skills to create the lovely atmosphere that we have here. Achieving an Outstanding Ofsted early in 2010 was a wonderful endorsement for our nursery”.
We have two large rooms: one to accommodate the babies and toddlers (3 months - 2 years) and the Little Explorers room to accommodate the older toddlers and early pre-school age children (2 years - 3 years).
The baby/toddler room can accommodate 15 children and has 5 members of staff. The room benefits from a separate sleep room, where calming quiet music is always played to sooth the children whilst going to sleep.
The main part of the room is split into two, separating at busy times the babies from the toddlers. A wide variety of activities is offered to accommodate the children's age and stage of development and, at quiet times, the babies and toddlers come together to enjoy the each other's compny.
The Little Explorers can accommodate 18 children and has 6 members of staff; the room benefits from a gym that is the favourite area for most of the children, as even on the most rainy days they can still be very active! The room offers a wide variety of activities, including a mark making area that has crayons and paper, etc out at all times, sand and water, low level shelves so that the children can help themselves to toys and a cosy book corner with a good variety of books to suit all children.
We have a garden that the children can enjoy all year round. The children are provided with all- weather suits so that they can experience the puddles in the rain! The garden has a large chalk board for outdoor mark making, and a bat and ball area, it also has a Wendy house for the imaginative child and slides and see-saws.
We are open 7.45am until 6.00pm Monday to Friday and close for Bank Holidays and for one week at Christmas.
Parents can choose full or half day sessions according to what best suits your needs (subject to availability). Half days are at the Manager's discretion.
Morning session 7.45am - 12.30pm Afternoon 1.30pm – 6.00pm Full Day 7.45am - 6.00pm
Feedback from Parents
“For our first experience with our first child in a nursery and returning back to work at 6 months, the nursery have made our daughter feel very welcome and this is very reassuring. We have enjoyed leaving XX at nursery knowing she is happy. Thank you to the staff for making the experience one that I would thoroughly recommend”.
Ofsted Report 2010
“Little Willows is an outstanding setting. All children make very good progress because of the high level of care the staff provides for them. The staff are good role models and the atmosphere is very calm. They treat each child as an individual and know them very well so that the children trust them, grow in confidence and enjoy their time in the nursery".
Mel Skipp – Manager - Willow Tree
Mel qualified from college in 1999 with a Btec in Childhood Studies and joined Willow Tree as a Room Leader. In 2002 Mel gained an NVQ Level 3 in Nursery Management. She then left to work abroad.
In May 2006 Mel returned to Willow Tree as Deputy Manager and in 2009 was promoted to Manager. Mel has now completed the Foundation Degree in Early Years Development and Learning and is currentlly working towards a BA (Honours) Degree in Children's Development and Learning and Early Years Professional Status. Mel undertakes the role of Special Needs Co-ordinator for both nurseries.
What Mel says about her nursery...
“We have a fantastic team who are passionate about children and who offer a variety of attributes to the nursery. We operate a paired and shared key carer system which ensures somebody special is there to greet the children every day and to provide valuable feedback to the parents. We work closely with parents to ensure smooth transitions and ultimately happy, healthy children.
We strive to offer every child the best start to their early education. We hope to give them the confidence and enthusiasm for learning that will prepare them for their future at school and the years to come”.
At Willow Tree we cater for children aged between 2 years 6 months and 5 years old and can have up to 25 children on any one day. We operate a free flow environment and the children can access the three rooms independently.
We have light rooms with most resources at the children’s level and we have a spacious outdoor environment that comprises part of our free flow from the main room. The children are able to access the garden in all weathers and we provide suitable outdoor clothing to allow them to do this. We put great emphasis on the outdoor environment and encourage the children to explore and be active.
Inside we have a well stocked home corner which is always popular and a large building block area. We like to be creative every day and encourage the children to engage in messy play and art activities. We provide ICT equipment and enjoy story telling every day. We promote early social skills and help to support children’s developing relationships.
We believe that children can cover all areas of the curriculum through good quality play experiences and this is reflected in the resources and experiences we offer.
