Forest Lodge Day Nursery is our most recently opended nursery located in the safe and secure grounds of Heatherwood Hospital. It has been designed and equipped specifically as an extended day care nursery and within each room we cater for sleep, quiet, noisy, messy and learning activities.

Our nursery has a large secure grassed outdoors playing area and, weather permitting, we aim to have outdoor play as often as possible.

Michelle Williams - Manager

What Michelle says about her nursery...

“Forest Lodge is a small nursery providing a rich and friendly environment which supports your child’s individuality, curiosity and promotes self esteem and confidence.  I have a dedicated and committed staff team which strives to provide exceptional levels of care and education.

Our baby room is bright and airy and accommodates 12 children aged from 3 months to 18 months. There is a range of stimulating toys provided by caring and nurturing practitioners.  The room offers a messy play area, a soft play area and a sleep room. The layout of resources and furnishings is designed to allow children to crawl and walk around the room freely.  We have a cosy corner for 1:1 or group story time. Our baby room provides many rich opportunities for babies to stimulate all their senses and develop both fine motor and gross motor skills.  It also has a separate sleep room which is monitored throughout the day.  We believe that the uniqueness of each individual child is important, and this includes the baby’s routines; we do not have set routines for babies but are flexible to follow each baby’s needs.

Our toddler room is a cosy transitional room for children aged between 18 to 26 months. We take 6 toddlers at any one time with an adult/child ratio of 1:3. Age appropriate resources, which support all areas of development, are offered by experienced and dedicated practitioners. The children benefit from both small group and individual story times in a well designed and colourful reading area. The toddlers have an area specifically dedicated for messy play, art and craft.

Our pre-school room is a spacious and bright room which accommodates 20 children aged from 2 to 5 years with 4 practitioners.  The children learn through play and have a large area dedicated for messy play, arts and crafts.   There is a home/theme corner in this room and there are dressing up clothes and other props, which facilitate and support role-play, encouraging creative, cognitive, social and communication skills. There is a separate dining area and access to a secure garden. The pre-school children keep in touch with the local community by visiting the local library, shops, park and of course, Ascot Racecourse.

The children interact in a free-flow environment. The main room leads into a secure garden enabling freedom of choice of being ether indoors or outdoors. We recognise that the outdoors provides a unique learning environment and pride ourselves on giving children the freedom to learn, explore and play...whatever the weather!"

Feedback from Parents

"Forest Lodge is the best we've seen – it's friendly, well organised, and clean and most of all XX enjoyed coming there on a daily basis”.

“XX has loved coming to nursery from the start – she is always keen to tell me things she has done during the day and sings the new songs she has learnt on the way home. Every day is different and there is always a good handover at the end of the day. Even after such a short time, she has grown in confidence; she is really enjoying the learning environment and is making new friends. I am so grateful for all your hard work to make nursery such a fun place for the children, but also a professional environment that I am happy to leave my children in”.

Ofsted Report 2009

“Children settle quickly into the nursery routine and most are happy and secure in their environment. Staff provide new children to the nursery with a high level of individual support and reassurance as they settle and spend time away from their main carer. Older children have opportunities to develop their own ideas and contribute their thoughts about the activities and resources in place.

Staff have a good knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). They use this to plan an interesting and varied range of activities and resources for children throughout the nursery. Children make good progress in their learning and development”.
